DICKINSON — October marks Foster Youth Voice Month, a nationwide campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the experiences of children and young adults in foster care while encouraging them to advocate for themselves and participate in decisions affecting their lives. Originally launched by the Selfless Love Foundation, the annual observance emphasizes the importance of giving foster youth a voice in shaping policies, programs and services designed to support their well-being. This year's theme, "Driven by Experience," recognizes young people with firsthand experience in foster care as valuable contributors to improving the child welfare system. The campaign highlights how their perspectives, experiences and leadership can influence policies and legislation, helping create better opportunities for current and future generations of foster youth. A central focus of the initiative is building self-awareness, confidence and self-advocacy among young people in care.
